World Champion.

Since the release of the very first T1 back in 1999, Team XRAY has worked very hard to win the most acclaimed title of World Champion. Over the years, Team XRAY was a strong contender on many occasions and achieved several podium finishes at the World Championships, while the overall title slipped away by a fraction.

Finally, after almost 20 years of dedication and passion from our team of drivers and designers, the first World Champion title in the 1/10 electric touring class was achieved by XRAY’s Bruno Coelho.

XRAY – The World Champions

European Champions.

XRAY’s factory team driver Bruno Coelho already demonstrated the capabilities of the new platform using an early prototype to set TQ and win the title at the European Championship 2019. Since that achievement, the final version of the new platform was fine-tuned to raise the performance level even higher.

Champion.

From national titles around the world… through ETS Champion titles… all the way to the European, Asian, and USA Championship titles… and the recent World Champion title, the T4 has an astonishingly long and strong history of victories to support the winning heritage of the XRAY T4 platform.

”Following thousands of hours of track-testing with the factory team around the world and thousands of hours in R&D and prototyping, the result is an outstanding race car that is a masterpiece manufactured and machined in-house in Europe, with the extreme precision you would expect from XRAY. I am very proud to present you the new T4.”

Martin Hudy
XRAY designer

ETS Champions.

In 2016 XRAY was the first team to sweep the overall championship titles in all three classes at the ETS, including 1/10 Modified, Stock, and Formula… setting a new standard to beat!

A year later in 2017 Team XRAY repeated its wins of both Modified and Stock classes, with Bruno Coelho becoming back-to-back ETS Champion in the Modified class and Alexandre Duchet winning the Stock class.

In 2018, Team XRAY repeated its dominant performance and won the overall ETS Championship titles in all three classes again: Modified, Stock, and F1.

In 2019, Team XRAY once again claimed the title in F1 and F1 40+ class, and the most prestigious Modified TC class for the 4th time in a row. Using the prototype in the modified class, the XRAY team won the final three events of the season.

High Performance.

Since the release of the first XRAY touring car in 1999, XRAY has been a driving force in the 1/10 electric touring car racing scene.  Continuous development and evolution of the XRAY product line has led to ever-increasing performance.

XRAY’s commitment to craftsmanship, durability and performance is unsurpassed. Be part of the family, live the heritage.

Made in Europe.

Designed, developed, and fully manufactured in-house at the XRAY factory in Slovakia, Europe, using the most high-tech German and Swiss machines and premium European materials, crafted with XRAY's trademark attention to detail by our production specialists. The T4 is truly a masterpiece.

Graphite & 2 Alu Editions.

The T4’21 platform was tested for performance improvements across all track conditions to have the car at the highest competition level out of the box. But even with this goal, there are still enough differences in track conditions that it can require different components for maximum levels of performance.

To allow the customer to choose their ideal starting point, there are three versions of the T4’21: the Graphite, Flex Aluminum and Solid Aluminum Edition. Each version features all the same components except for the chassis plate.

Chassis.

All-new chassis is redesigned to work with the new motor mount, T-brace and features holes for centering pins for RF suspension blocks. The holes for short arms mounting system are removed for improved durability of the chassis.

Retained from the previous year, the mid motor chassis layout is designed to accommodate the new center drivetrain system and the narrow mounts for the long arm suspension.

There are three chassis alternatives to choose from when selecting the kit, 2.2mm graphite or 2.0mm aluminum flex chassis or 2.0mm aluminum solid chassis.

Chassis.

The 2.2mm thick chassis is CNC-machined from premium-grade graphite material. This chassis is developed for all asphalt conditions. The narrow chassis is only 86mm wide with a variety of chassis flex adjustments that help to generate exceptional traction and give excellent steering characteristics.

The 2.0mm thick aluminum flex chassis is CNC-machined from premium Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum, then black coated and laser engraved. The ultra-narrow chassis is only 84mm wide and features special cut outs that provide the chassis flex characteristics suitable for a variety of the medium grip surfaces. The bottom of the chassis is tapered to reduce contact between the chassis and the ground while turning to improve cornering speed.

The 2.0mm solid aluminum chassis is available for high traction conditions such as US black carpet tracks.

Motor Mount.

New motor mount is machined as a single piece and now features an integrated belt tensioner to control the rear belt tension more precisely. The motor mount is also part of the new chassis bracing layout that can link the mount, T-brace and chassis for more flex control choices.

The motor mount is made from 1 piece instead of 2 pieces (motor mount + post in previous version) to eliminated unwanted tweak and to make the motor mount more durable.

The motor mount also includes the mounting provisions for the battery backstop for simplified pack installation.

Motor Mount Flex Settings.

The motor and layshaft mounts are integrated into a one-piece design that is placed in the absolute center line of the chassis. The new motor mount features a pressed-in steel layshaft axle that is positioned in the middle of the chassis with the motor located to the rear of the layshaft.

The motor mount is designed to have super low CG design but still robust enough to resist bending in the serious crashes.

The motor mount is installed on the chassis with 5 screws. One is placed in front of the layshaft axis, and the other 4 screws are located to the rear and can be removed for further chassis flex adjustment.

Machined from premium Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum and black anodized.

T-Brace.

The previously optional T-brace is now included as a standard feature in the T4’21 as it was used in almost all conditions on both asphalt and carpet surfaces by team drivers and customers alike. The brace made the car more stable, generated more rear traction and allowed chassis flex adjustments to alter steering characteristics by adding and removing screws from the brace.

The updated T-brace can now be connected to the motor mount to create an even stronger center structure which makes the car more stable and easier to drive while pushing the pace even faster.

T-Brace Flex Settings.

Top Deck.

The new top deck is narrower in the front section for improved steering characteristics and forward traction. The profile of the rear section was updated for improved clearance around the motor for better fitment to allow a wider range of gearing and motor positions typically found in spec class racing.

The top deck was designed to work with the new center layshaft location in the middle of the chassis. Made from 2.0mm graphite material, the shape of the top deck has been specifically designed to achieve maximum traction and great steering characteristics at the same time.

The top deck is perfectly symmetrical to achieve the ideal, consistent flex behavior.

Optional 1.6mm graphite top deck is recommended for use in low- to medium-traction conditions with the optional alu chassis.

Bulkheads.

New bulkheads are refined with improved rear arm clearance when using the high roll center positions without rear arm modification.

Bulkheads were completely redesigned in 2020 to work with the long arms and narrower suspension holders. The bulkheads feature a super low anti-roll bar mounting position that allows the anti-roll bar wire to be placed under the drive shafts to significantly lower the CG.

The bulkheads feature 1mm milled grooves for the ball bearing hubs that moved the bulkheads 1mm closer to the chassis center line from each side.

Made from premium Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum, black anodized.

Body Stop System.

The body stop system is an all-new feature. The graphite battery stops are mounted into the modified C hubs with a height adjustable position to control when the body touches the graphite stops. Thanks to this new system, the body can be placed lower in front to improve high speed steering and stability of the car.

Battery Holders.

New tweak-free, fully adjustable Quick Battery Mounting System offers simply and secure battery installation without tape and without adverse effects on chassis flex. The new system controls the positioning of the pack in the chassis while at the same time reducing the battery pack’s impact on chassis flex, resulting in more consistent handling and stability.

Smart battery holders are specifically designed for LiPo batteries and are reinforced for harder impacts. The battery holders prevent the batteries from moving under racing conditions and crashes.

Battery Backstops.

The battery backstop system was redesigned for use with the increasingly common shorty batteries. Now integrated in motor mount for easy assembly and adjustment.

The battery backstop prevents batteries from moving in a crash. In the front, the backstop is mounted on the servo mount; in the rear, the motor mount.

Bumper Brace.

The new composite front upper bumper brace is included in the kit to prevent chassis damage in serious crashes. The brace was designed to distribute the forces from a big impact to reduce damage to the chassis plate.

Suspension Holders.

New RF blocks feature a centering pin for more precise mounting and for more consistent and accurate rear toe settings.

Steering Plate.

The 8mm steering plate is now included in the kit. Based on the racer feedback, the 8mm plate was preferred for both modified and spec classes in nearly all conditions and surfaces, and is now standard in the kit for improved performance right from the box. The main advantage of the 8mm steering plate is a smoother turn in characteristic and improved cornering speed.

The Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum steering plate was designed to significantly reduce play of the entire steering system, making the steering more responsive and precise. The bearings are factory pressed into the steering plate to eliminate excess play in the assembly.

Steel Outdrives.

New steel outdrives for the solid axle are now included in the kit as another improvement in out of the box performance based on customer feedback. The steel outdrives replace the previous standard composite outdrives.

ECS Drive Shafts.

The 52mm ECS drive shafts are now standard in the T4’21 based on the racing experiences over the last year. The 52mm was preferred by many spec class racers in most conditions to improve the car performance right from the box, increasing stability and cornering speed.

50mm and 51mm ECS drive shafts are still available to tune to particular track conditions.

The XRAY ECS drive shafts equalize the speed between the drive shaft and the wheel. With a unique 2-piece joint between the axle and the wheel, an extreme wheel turning angle is divided into two shallower angles without causing binding. Regardless of cornering speed and wheel angle, the inner wheel will not bind or vibrate. Drive through the corner is more stable, more precise, and easier.

With the ECS drive shafts, wheel vibrations and noise are decreased to minimum, steering is increased, and cornering speed & smoothness are noticeably increased.

Drive shafts are exclusively manufactured from special world-renowned, top-secret, self-developed HUDY Spring Steel™. The drive shafts are strategically lightened – see the hollow end of the dog bone – to guarantee the lowest possible weight without compromising strength or durability.

These specially lightened drive shafts can only be manufactured from special HUDY Spring Steel™ which was developed for extreme racing conditions. The drive shafts have been additionally hand-ground for maximum precision and to provide true rotation and unbinding drivetrain operation.

Shock Springs.

A common setup configuration in previous years was changing the kit springs from the standard 2.5 F/R to the 2.5-2.8 F and 2.6 R. For 2021, the T4 includes that popular spring combo as stock equipment.

With an intelligent design, the full range of existing XRAY SLP springs may also be used in the ULP shocks, so you can still use the entire range of springs from previous T4 cars.

The 4S springs - like all other XRAY springs - are manually measured, selected, and matched into pairs to guarantee precisely equal length and damping characteristics.

Black Stealth.

All parts are now black anodized including shocks and steering system for stealth looking black design.

XRAY Video Tech Tips.

An all-new feature are the QR codes in the Instruction Manual. When building the car scan the code to be directed to an online video made by Alexander Hagberg that explains the set-up features in detail.

Perfection.

Designed in virtual reality using the world's most sophisticated CAD tools, and manufactured using the world's best machining and molding machinery, the T4 achieves a level of perfection in all details that is second to none.

T4 Concept.

The T4 is typical XRAY: ultimate professional, high-competition RC car for the most demanding racers, developed with attention to the finest detail, and backed by premium service & support…a luxury masterpiece.

World Champions Team.

Team XRAY continues its winning streak at major international & national races all around the world! Just recently, Team XRAY added plenty of titles including World Champion, European Champion, ETS Champion, USA Champion and many more to the already impressive list of achievements, which includes more than 300 national titles from around the world, 45 titles from the USA National Championship, and multiple wins at other famous races such as DHI, TITC, LRP, IIC, ETS, Snowbirds, and many others.  Be part of one of the most successful racing teams in the world!

Standard Features.

Some information shown below may include details from previous kits, and it may vary slightly from current kit specifications.

Top Deck Flex Setting.

The unique top deck flex settings allows easy adjustment of the flex between 3 different characteristics.

The top deck can be mounted via connecting stand using these alternatives:

XRAY Gear Differential.

The T4 gear diff increases on-power steering which is needed on nearly all types of tracks, and is ideal for both carpet and asphalt tracks. The gear diff includes a composite case and cover with pulley. Differential gears are made from tough composite material, precision-molded composite gears combined with light aluminum drive shafts, which create a lighter and super-smooth gear differential. Another key advantage of the gear diff is that it is maintenance-free. When the diff is correctly built, there is no need for maintenance for a very long time… no need for frequent oil changes, and no leakage due to the superior sealing system.

Middle Layshaft.

The aluminum layshaft is strategically CNC-machined to minimize rotating weight without compromising strength or integrity. The hollow layshaft is perfectly round with zero run out, eliminating drivetrain vibration and producing a positive balance. Composite pulleys key solidly to the layshaft.

Upper Clamps.

Upper clamps were redesigned to work with the bulkheads that are moved 1mm towards the centerline from each side. The upper clamps feature 1mm milled grooves for the ball-bearing hubs.

The upper clamps have been milled to remove unnecessary material to reduce their size and weight.

Made from premium Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum and black anodized.

Steering System.

To make the T4 steering more responsive and precise, play in the entire steering system was significantly reduced using bushings mounted between the bearings in the steering arm.

The dual-arm steering system is supported by six ball-bearings and runs on aluminum stands. Ackermann is easily adjusted by inserting shims between the steering plate and steering rods. The steering system has a low mounting position for the steering linkage, giving the car easier handling going into corners. More aggressive handling is easily accomplished by inserting shims between the steering blocks and steering rods.

Steering Blocks.

The small and tough steering blocks each feature two Ackermann positions. The front steering blocks also feature small but robust 5x10x4mm ball-bearings to minimize unsprung weight.

The steering blocks are available in three different hardnesses, which are optimized for particular racing conditions.

C-hubs.

The C-hubs in the T4 are also carried over from the T3 platform and feature large openings for quicker & easier assembly/disassembly of the CVDs/ECS. The entire CVD/ECS assembly can be easily inserted/removed through the C-hub without the need for disassembly. The large openings prevent collision of CVD/ECS with C-hub in serious crashes.

Servo Saver.

The hugely-popular XRAY servo saver was improved and updated for the T4. Additional positions on the servo saver were added to make steering linkage adjustment easier. The servo saver consists of 4 springs which makes the servo saver strong enough to provide the precise steering racers demand, while still being flexible enough to prevent servo damage in hard crashes. The servo saver has interchangeable bushings to fit most popular servos.

ULP Shock Towers.

ULP (Ultra Low Profile) shock towers were redesigned to work with the positioning of the bulkheads and upper clamps and to match the geometry of the longer suspension arms.

Machined from premium-grade 3.0mm graphite, the shock towers are super lightweight and very compact.

ULP Shocks.

XRAY was the first company to introduce the SLP shocks which lowered the CG of the car. Since that time, SLP shocks became the industry standard that everyone uses.

With ongoing development and pushing performance boundaries, XRAY designed unique ULP (Ultra Low Profile) shocks which are 4mm shorter than SLP shocks, thus improving the stability of the car.

ULP shocks were developed to lower the CG of the car even more to the absolute lowest to further improve stability. With ULP shocks the T4 stays flatter, making it easier to drive in chicanes and making it more resistant to traction rolling, letting you carry more speed through high-traction sweepers. Steering response and cornering speed are significantly improved as well.

For very bumpy tracks, SLP shocks remain an excellent option.

ULP Shock Parts.

To lower the shocks, several parts were completely redesigned for the ULP shocks.

Shock bodies are CNC-machined from premium Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum and hardened to ensure maximum lifespan. The aluminum upper and lower nuts have a lower-profile design, including new sealing O-ring and upper composite ball joint. All other shock parts remain the same and are fully interchangeable between SLP and ULP shocks.

With an intelligent design, the full range of existing XRAY SLP springs may also be used in the ULP shocks, so you can still use the entire range of springs from previous T4 cars.

The pistons remain unchanged, and the set includes 3- and 4-hole pistons with 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2mm diameter holes. The pistons are molded using special processes and composites to ensure extreme roundness while maintaining maximum stiffness and durability.

ARS™ System.

Optional Active Rear Suspension (ARS™) offers additional adjustment possibilities to further tune the driving characteristics.

Universal design of the rear arms allows mounting either the standard rear hub or the ARS suspension with no need to change the arms.

The optional ARS aluminum C-hubs were redesigned to work with the latest rear suspension geometry and are available in 0, 2 and 4 degree caster alternatives.

I.S.S™ Suspension Bushings.

Using eccentric suspension bushings inserted into aluminum suspension blocks, as well as additional use of suspension shims and suspension parts, the T4 suspension geometry is completely adjustable including:

Suspension Arms.

The suspension arms are 7mm longer than the previous generation, they help create more grip in low traction conditions and improve stability on higher traction surfaces.

The suspension arms feature a standard shock mounting position as well as a 4mm lower position to lower the CG (must be used with optional ULP shock tower). The lower mounting position improves the stability of the car in the chicanes and in technical corners and improves steering response.

The rear arms feature design to accommodate the standard rear suspension and the optional ARS suspension using the same arm.

Made from specially-formulated graphite composite material and featuring an integrated anti-roll bar mount, the arms are a very lightweight component that can withstand the rigors of high-performance racing.

Different hardnesses of arms are available, each optimized for particular racing conditions.

Rear Drive Shafts.

The T4 features 50mm long lightweight aluminum drive shafts machined from premium Swiss 7075 T6, hard-anodized and black-coated for stylish looks. The aluminum drive shafts are designed for use in the rear.

To reduce rotating weight, the rear CVD drive shafts feature super-lightweight wheel axles which have the outer diameter specially ground to remove the material while keeping the same strength thanks to the use of HUDY Spring Steel™.

Rear Uprights.

Hard "H" rear uprights are included to improve the stability of the car and to increase cornering speed of the T4.

The rear uprights feature 0° toe to ensure stability and prevent suspension geometry changes in hard crashes. There are two different roll center positions on the rear uprights, and roll center positions can be easily adjusted by adding shims between the upright and the turnbuckle ball joint.

The rear uprights feature small but robust 5x10x4mm ball-bearings to minimize unsprung weight.

The rear uprights are available in three different material formulations that were specifically blended for particular racing conditions. A medium “M” and graphite “G” hardness rear upright is available as an option.

1-hole uprights were developed as an optional fine-tuning part to compliment the standard 2-hole uprights for high-traction tracks where more roll of the car is desired. These 1-hole uprights provide an additional option versus the standard 2-hole upright when the outer hole does not allow enough roll, and the inner hole creates too much roll.

Wheel Hubs.

Ultra-lightweight wheel hex drive hubs are CNC-machined from 7075 T6 black-coated aluminum. These ultra-true hex hubs are specially machined to reduce rotating weight while guaranteeing wobble-free wheel mounting.

Optional offsets are available (-0.75, +0.75, +1.5mm).

Body Posts.

With the unique BPA (Body Position Adjustment) system, the front body posts have an eccentric design that allows them to be positioned two different ways. The redesigned rear body posts feature graphite inserts to adjust their mounting positions on the rear shock tower.

Beefy 6mm thick body posts are made from special composite material that provides maximum strength but sufficient flex to reduce body post breakage in hard crashes or if the car flips over. The body supports are rounded to have a better fit and provide better support to the car body.

For ultimate tuning and adjustment, XRAY offers optional height adjustable body posts which allow independent front & rear body height adjustment by +1mm or +2mm.

Body Position Adjustment.

With the innovative and unique BPA (Body Position Adjustment), you can easily adjust the body position for all different surfaces, traction conditions, and different touring classes with a single body. Body position is very important for proper set-up to get maximum performance, traction, steering, and stability from the car. With the BPA system, there are three different body positions available, and as such there is no more need for different bodies with different mounting positions.

Drive Belts.

The 2-belt 4WD drivetrain concept provides maximum efficiency and highest performance drive belts for ultra-high durability. Narrow (3mm) front and rear drive belts have been specially ground for minimal thickness and flexibility.

Bearing Holders.

As with previous XRAY designs, both front and rear bulkheads feature integrated belt-tension adjustment through the use of adjustable bearing eccentric holders, eliminating the need for a separate belt tensioner while reducing friction and improving drivetrain efficiency.

Anti-roll Bars.

The wobble-free anti-roll bar system is mounted to the front & rear bulkheads via bearings from outside for extra-smooth movement and quick & easy changes and adjustment. The roll bar turns in ball-bearings for maximum precision and free movement. Anti-roll bar height is adjustable via a screw.

The complete range of different anti-roll bar thicknesses is designed to work with the ball-bearing roll bar mounting system. Front 1.4mm and rear 1.3mm anti-roll bars are included as standard. Anti-roll bars have laser-engraved stripes (corresponding to bar thickness) for easy identification.

Ball-Bearings.

A full set of 25 high-speed, blue-sealed and steel ball-bearings are used throughout the drivetrain, steering and anti-roll bars to ensure maximum efficiency. All of the bearings are degreased and oiled with Aero Shell® Fluid 12 for maximum smoothness and long life. The bearings used in steering blocks and uprights have been specially selected to reduce unsprung weight and maximize drivetrain efficiency.

Turnbuckles.

Aluminum adjustable turnbuckles used in the T4 are CNC-machined from 7075 T6 material with a stylish black coating. These turnbuckles are used for front and rear upright linkages as well as for the servo saver and ARS™ system. The aluminum turnbuckles are lighter than steel to help decrease the overall weight of the car.

Silicone Oils.

HUDY Exclusive Silicone Oils are manufactured in Europe and each batch is laboratory tested and calibrated to ensure the highest possible consistency and quality from batch to batch. Based on the industry-standard cSt rating, the new line of oils will be easy to identify, adjust, and feel.

When following any set-up sheets by XRAY or XRAY team drivers, you can be sure that the oils you will get for your car are exactly same as those used by the factory racing team, thus ensuring very exacting set-ups and handling.

HUDY Chem Series.

Chassis Balance.

Chassis design focuses on balanced weight distribution and weight transfer. The chassis features pre-drilled holes for additional weights for optimum car balancing. Centerline holes are pre-drilled for easy balancing with the HUDY Chassis Balancing Tool #107880.

Graphite Grease.

The T4 includes premium HUDY Graphite Grease which is a high-performance, advanced-technology semi-fluid lubricant which incorporates both extreme pressure additives and finely-dispersed graphite for load carrying. It is intended primarily for the lubrication of rotating parts and loaded gears. In addition to providing outstanding load carrying, it is formulated to have excellent adhesion and resistance to "fling-off" under extreme conditions. The grease reduces wear and increase the parts life. #106210 HUDY Graphite Grease.
